Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles achieved new sales record in 2012 - Global deliveries rose to around
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered 550,400 vehicles worldwide in the 2012 fiscal year. With this, the brand, responsible for the business with light-weight commercial vehicles, people carriers, touring cars and pick-ups in the Volkswagen Group, can look back on a new peak year.
"With the 2012 volume, our deliveries attained a new record level. Together with our dealers and importers, our brand acted clever not only in uncertain Western Europe, but did so the world over", said Dr. Eckhard Scholz, Speaker for the Board of Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. "European markets continue to remain difficult, but we are aware of our pole position in Europe and will leverage the strength of our products. We are entering the new year cautiously but with confidence as well."
Global deliveries to customers have risen by 4.1% to 550,400 vehicles in comparison to the previous year (2011: 528,900). In the whole of Europe, deliveries dropped by 0.1% to 326,000 vehicles (2011: 326,300). In Western Europe, deliveries fell by 1.8% to 284,300 vehicles (2011: 289,800). In Germany, deliveries declined by 1.6% to 123,100 vehicles (2011: 125,200). In Eastern Europe, deliveries increased by 14.2% to 41,700 vehicles (2011: 36,500).
Deliveries in South America rose by 7.9% to 148,100 light-weight commercial vehicles and pick-ups (2011: 137,300). In Africa, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles was able to boost deliveries by 17.7% to 19,700 units. The delivery volume in the Asia/Pacific region grew by 61.9% to 19,000 vehicles.
The Amarok posted a global increase in deliveries of 26.7% to 84,100 vehicles (2011: 66,400). "The success of the Amarok demonstrates that our strategy of unlocking a new vehicle segment for Volkswagen Group as well as new markets and new customers for our brand with this outstanding pick-up has definitely worked," Scholz emphasised.
Deliveries of the Crafter increased by 24% to 49,200 vehicles (2011: 39,700). The T5 model range grew by 2.9% to 160,300 deliveries worldwide (2011: 155,800). Deliveries of the Caddy fell by 5.9% to 151,100 vehicles worldwide (2011: 160,600).
Deliveries of the Saveiro decreased by 2.3% to 79,400 (2011: 81,200); the T2 showed a 4.4% growth, adding up to 26,200 deliveries (2011: 25,100).
